The Reality of Being a Child Actor
Once there was a little girl who found herself in a very big business. She was just a small child in an industry that devours its own for breakfast. It was no place for an 8-year-old girl. But she managed. She fought. She showed up day after day because that’s what you had to do.
And she really wanted to succeed. She did succeed. She was rewarded for it, and everyone treated her kindly because of her success. The applause felt good. The attention felt warm. But I was only a kid.
Deep down, I always wanted to do the right thing. I wanted to make others happy, show up on time, and do my job well. That became my way of surviving — being good, being reliable, being perfect. I thought if I could just keep making everyone happy, I would be safe and loved.
For many years, that formula worked. I built a career. I became known. I played the roles I was given — both on screen and off. I smiled through exhaustion. I said “yes” when I was tired. I carried the weight quietly because that’s what good girls do.
