Finding Strength on the Bike: My Spin Journey with Cerebellar Ataxia
Updated: Aug 14

My friend Bridgette invited me to join a class she regularly attends called Grit Cycle. The studio was in Monarch Beach, and the instructor was an absolute beast — with a bright, infectious smile and her signature ponytail. I’m not kidding when I say she was truly inspirational.
I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with spinning. At first, I thought it would just be another workout to try. But as time went on and my life grew more chaotic, I discovered something beautiful and healing on that bike. In the spin room — especially at Grit Cycle — I found support, encouragement, and a deep sense of companionship, even as uncertainty about my health continued to grow. I found a community where I least expected it.
Several years later, I’m still showing up consistently. I’ve changed studios over time, but I’m always back on my bike. I go because I can. Some days that simple act feels like a small miracle.
