Don’t Lose Yourself

Updated: Jul 7

Don’t Lose Yourself (Even If You’re Crying in the Shower)

I don’t care what you lose in this life — just don’t lose yourself.

Grief and hard times can feel incredibly lonely, even when family is around. That’s why I always say grief is very lonely. It’s like being at a party where everyone else is laughing and having fun, while you’re standing in the corner holding a sad little plate of emotional snacks.

If you’re reading this, I want you to know that you are not alone. And as long as you have your breath, you have something steady to come back to.

For me, one of the things that helps on the hard days is remembering this: I have gained more than I have lost.

Through everything, I’ve gained humility, compassion for myself and for others, and a deeper awareness of what truly matters. I’m still learning to ask for help — something I’m not always great at, but I’m getting better. And I’m trying to bring more consciousness and even a little more fun back into my life.

I also think about something my acting teacher, Carole Dandrea, once told me — words I still treasure: “One’s greatest strength can be their vulnerability.”
